It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Unfortunately with trampolines, that actually happens quite often. There seem to be trampolines in every backyard in Kennewick, and we now even have our own Trampoline park in the Tri-Cities. With most sports and activities, trampolines can be used safely and you can do your best to prevent injury. But, what if you can’t? If you experience an injury on a trampoline and are in need of a chiropractor, call today!
Here are 3 suggestions to keep your kids safe on the trampoline:
1. Jump Alone On The Trampoline
I know, this seems sad, but the truth is that the probability of injuries rises exponentially as more people get on. Most injuries occur not because kids fly off the trampoline. Instead, it’s because another child lands on them, they’re doing something inappropriate, or they are unevenly matched in size.
2. Only Allow Children 6 And Older To Jump On full-Sized Trampolines
Those little ones are going to feel left out. But left out is better than injured. This is actually a recommendation by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. According to a recent article on their website, “Between 2002 and 2011, there were more than one million emergency department visits for trampoline-related injuries.”
3. Adequate Padding/Net Enclosure
Regularly check the padding to make sure it is in good condition and appropraitely placed. The net enclosure, especially can easily be torn and damaged. Injuries can then result from falling through the hole in the netting. Make sure all padding or enclosures are repaired or replaced as soon as possible.
